Happy _____ Year!
Well, I guess the year is not so new anymore considering we are more than halfway through January. 2011 was such a great year and I have high hopes for this year! Last year was filled with big 1st year milestones, new babies, many answered prayers, good health, a renewed friendship, and lots and lots of laughter.
It is actually quite remarkable to think about the changes that we have seen in Isabelle during this past year. She went from a little baby to a little girl...sitting up to crawling, walking (many months later) to running everywhere, bald head to goldilocks (mullet!), laughing occasionally to laughing hysterically often. We thought we were starting to understand her personality at 6 months, but now at 18 months it's really shining through...and I just adore every little bit of it (even the not-so-great parts!). She amazes me everyday.
Wow. That was my sweet angel 1 year ago. Now I have a hard time catching her to take a picture. She is enjoying her more stable mobility, running to and fro (not without a few falls here and there). Isabelle is most happy running around outside...the cold weather doesn't keep her in.
Catch me if you can...who needs toys when you've got running shoes?
It's so hard to believe that Isabelle is now closer to age 2 than age 1. I don't know why that baffles me...I know that she will be 16 in a blink of an eye (yikes!). She is such a big girl now, showing us all of her big girl talents. A few of them include:
Here she is getting ready to go to school.
What a big girl!
A glimpse into the future: "Oh my gah, mom, like totally stop taking pictures of me."
One day I gave Isabelle the iphone while finishing up a few things downstairs (parent of the year, right?)...I came up to see this. Crockett as the perfect lounge chair!
Oh, just catching up on emails.
Another glimpse into the future: "Oh my gah, she did what?"
A few weeks ago we went to Greensboro to celebrate our friend, Brant's 2nd birthday. I didn't do a good job with pictures, but Isabelle had a blast playing at Little Gym for the first time. She particularly enjoyed the balance beam!

1. Feeding herself with a spoon and fork. After a couple weeks of complete frustration (and many tantrums) she has mastered the art of eating with a spoon. Since we have oatmeal every morning this has helped me out a lot! She proudly finishes her bowl all on her own (with only a couple mounds of oatmeal left on her lap!)
2. Coloring with crayons. This girl LOVES to draw. Not a big surprise since this was my favorite activity since the day I learned to hold a crayon until...well, now!
3. Saying NO all the time (not really a talent). She doesn't use words yet (sigh) but she shakes her head feverishly A LOT in response to almost everything. Except when there's cake around.
4. Understanding EVERYTHING! I still can't quite get over all that she understands. I could probably read her a long list of instructions and she would follow them (if in the right mood, of course). She loves having "chores"...one of her favorites is putting things in the trash. I guess that's fitting given her love for the garbage truck!
5. Being SO independent. She doesn't want help with much. Whether it's getting down stairs, or climbing into her little car, she doesn't want a helping hand. If I even reach my hand out slightly, she will push it away and sometimes storm off in tears. Because she can do it all by herself...or at least she'll try to.
Here she is getting ready to go to school.
Here is the train cake I made for the party.
It was SO cute seeing her sit and eat dinner a the table with all the older kids. Luckily she's always a happy girl with food in front of her.
And a few more cakes in 2012...Very fun cake for a candy lover.
Birds and berries wedding cake. Hopefully I will get a good picture (I forgot to take one!) of the groom's cake. Really fun...for a groom named Brick (hint, hint).
Lace wedding cake.
