Some Bunny Loves Easter!

My little Izzy bunny loved Easter this year. It was probably the first holiday that she truly enjoyed celebrating for several weeks (she's still enjoying some saved up chocolate eggs and carrying her new stuffed bunny around). Thanks to her older cousin, Betsy Grace, she quickly learned what an Easter egg hunt is all about. By the time we went to the Charlotte Country Club hunt she was a pro.
The hunt is on!
The bunny was cool, but even cooler was access to a firetruck and a police SWAT vehicle. This was her first up-close encounter with a firetruck (one her favorite things on earth, still a tomboy) and she couldn't get enough of it. Not just the firetruck, but the firemen. She kept looking at them and pointing with this huge grin.
Seen here in the SWAT car. Not sure if it was being surrounded by "big" boys that was so cool (uh oh, we might be in trouble) or if it was just being inside a huge truck that got her all excited. She didn't want to leave!
Easter weekend was spent in eastern North Carolina with my parents. Brian won the son-in-law of the year award for making the trip across the state to visit my father's hometown (which included being crammed in one car together and lots of hanging out in a hotel room with in-laws)--the exciting metropolis of Edenton. I had been anxious to introduce him to this beautiful historic town and especially to visit with my dear 95 year old Aunt Mae (my last living relative in Edenton). He has spent a lot of time in upstate New York learning about my mother's family history, and now it was time for him to experience some Pruden history.

Izzy and Cici on the old cannons brings back lots of childhood memories.
Granddaddy gave us the full tour...seen here next to what was once his father's law office (a block from their home! --that's Edenton for ya).

We found a gorgeous spot to have yet another Easter Egg hunt. As far as I'm concerned you can never have too many.
Luckily Isabelle is at an age when empty eggs are still exciting!
Even more fun than hunting eggs is playing with Daddy.

And even more fun than playing with Daddy is playing with his sunglasses.
It was so wonderful seeing Mae and introducing her to Isabelle (her namesake! - they share the same middle name, Goodwin). Mae loves children and even though I know her aging body is under stress I could sense that being with her precious little great-great neice gave her great happiness and comfort.

Got it! So well hidden.

To my surprise, Isabelle was infatuated with the Easter bunny. After the whole Santa debacle, I figured this big furry monster could be very scary to my shy little girl (as he is for many her age), but Isabelle happily went up to hug him at first sight. At one point she pulled me to him and after a few bunny hugs she repeatedly held her arms up to him as if to say "please pick me up and take me away to your little bunny world"...at which point the Mr. bunny had to turn away to cater to other obsessed children.

A beautiful view above of the house my dad grew up in (on the right) overlooking the sound.
I hadn't been in Edenton in over 10 years and it still had all the charm that I had remembered, but this time it was so much more special bringing my family to this place. The architecture was more magnificent to me, the Eastern NC accents even more appealing...somehow I guess you just appreciate everything a bit more as you age.

Easter morning we had a last visit with Mae. Isabelle wasn't so keen on sitting next to Mae for a picture...
...but after we all gave goodbye hugs, Isabelle marched over to Mae (unprompted) to give her a hug as well. Our hearts all melted and I know it made Mae's day! We just barely caught that precious moment on camera...
Before enduring a long car ride, Isabelle got some energy out.
