Blessed Day

Last weekend was very special -- not just because I survived 2 wedding cakes, Isabelle's first ballet recital, and Collier's baptism.  But because Brian and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and a marriage that's been full of love and happiness.

Six years might not seem very monumental.  But in these last 6 years we have experienced life's greatest miracles and some of life's challenges, and throughout it all, our love and respect for each other has never waivered.

We have seen great miracles, from baby births to sunsets in faraway places.  We've been through job losses, financial strain, and have faced the challenge of raising two young children throughout it all.  Life can be like a tricky game.  But we are a team in this game.  And there's nobody I'd rather have on my team than you, Brian.  Some might say that stresses in life can make marriage difficult. For us, it's marriage that has made life do-able.  We depend on each other day in and out and I can't imagine going on this wonderful (and sometimes wild) ride without you.

It was almost 10 years ago that our story began.  Pictures tell a thousand words, so here are a few thousand words that tell our story: Anniversary Slideshow

On the day of our anniversary, we also celebrated the baptism of Collier.  Right after he was baptized, I was told to walk with him down the aisle to introduce him to the congregation as a child of God.  When I sat down afterwards I looked at my watch.  It was 5:30 on the dot.  A little eery, to say the least, since that was the moment I started walking down the same black and white checkered aisle with my father six years ago on our wedding day.  Same place, same time, same calendar day, with years filled of growth and babies, laughter and love in between those 2 days.

It's hard to believe how much my life has changed, and improved in just 6 years.  These are the fruits of our marriage, and I feel so blessed.

A little over 2 years ago, here we are with Isabelle just after her baptism at 7 months.

We are so honored to have our dear friends, JQ Freeman and Anna Blair Kneisel, each take on the role of Godparent to Collier.  They have both been longtime childhood friends to each of us and we know that they will always be such important people in Collier's life.
Collier Gridley wore the same christening gown that I did for my baptism, also worn by other Gridleys in the family, including his great grandfather, Grandison Gridley, over 90 years ago.  He was a star the entire afternoon!
Here is Isabelle after her baptism, in the heirloom gown worn by many of Brian's relatives.  Pretty obvious these two are related!  She was 2 months older, and just as cute!

Happy Anniversary to my dear husband.  I have such wonderful memories of this day!
I look forward to the next 60 years!
