Almost Sisters

Today I went on a walk with my sister-in-law, Libby and when I got home I felt so good...not just because I was out getting exercise (on one of the most beautiful mornings we've had in a long time!) but also because I got to spend time chatting with someone who has become such a dear friend to me in the past 6 years.

I always wanted a sister. I have an amazing brother, but I always thought what fun it would be to have "slumber parties" every night growing up, and to share clothes and shop together, to talk about boyfriends and share secrets. I guess my mom has been like a sister in my adulthood - we do share clothes and shop together, and I can (and do!) tell her pretty much anything and everything. We talk everyday (sometimes 5 times a day!)...but I don't think we will be growing old together, like sisters do.

My husband's brother's wife, Libby, has filled that void in my life. She is my "almost sister" - the friend who doesn't share the same circle of friends that I do, someone who I don't have to talk to everday or even every week and it doesn't matter, someone who I admire and who I depend on for advice. She is such an incredible person and I think that we have such mutual respect and appreciation for each other. We are so lucky to live just a few blocks apart. The greatest thing is that now we each have a daughter - first cousins who will grow up together, like "almost sisters" too!
