Full of Faith
Last Sunday Isabelle was baptized at Christ Church, the very church where I was baptized almost 32 years ago. It was such a special day with family and Isabelle's Godparents, Lori and Tyler, who came down from Greensboro for the weekend. Isabelle wore the christening gown worn by her daddy (made from the lace fabric of his great great grandmother's wedding gown!). I felt like such a proud parent standing up in front of the congregation with my beautiful baby girl and my handsome husband. The Reverend Lisa Saunders who married us almost 4 years ago at that same spot was the one who poured holy water over Isabelle's head. I had chills in that moment - up there once again, this time as a family.
Here's our special keepsake from the big day... Isabelle was a complete angel during the entire service, despite missing her morning nap. But she was a busy body and wanted her hands (and mouth) on everything but the toys I brought to entertain her. When we weren't looking she took a nice bite out of the program...Brian and I frantically looked at each other (my face said to him, "How could you let this happen?") and then we looked in her mouth and saw the program corner sitting on the back of her tongue. We thought for sure she was going to start choking and causing a major scene, but as we looked over to the more experienced moms sitting next to us - Lori, my mom and Brian's mom, they were nodding their heads, smiling, and assuring us that she would just swallow the paper and everything would be ok. And that's just what happened. Surely not the last time!
